Among basil essential oils, which are characterized by their sweet and spicy herbaceous aroma, this is a chemotype whose main component is methyl chavicol (estragole). It has a distinct aroma unique to its Vietnamese origin, characterized by the sweetness of anise and a crisp, refreshing quality.

The Basil Plant and Its Aroma

Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is an annual herb belonging to the Lamiaceae family, believed to be native to the Mediterranean and India, and has been a popular herb in kitchens worldwide. Its essential oil varies greatly in chemotype depending on its characteristics, with two main types: the linalool type (from Europe) and the methyl chavicol type (from Vietnam and Indonesia). This product is the Vietnamese type, rich in methyl chavicol (estragole), and is characterized by a greater sweetness and pronounced fennel and anise-like accents compared to the linalool type.
