This 100mL sesame carrier oil is cold-pressed from organic sesame seeds (Sesamum indicum) harvested in Togo, West Africa, and has a subtle aroma. It is a traditional oil that has been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic (traditional Indian medicine) massages. Its deep texture is appealing, known for its high moisturizing properties and nutritional value. The composition meets cosmetic ingredient standards.
Sesame Oil and Ayurveda
Sesame (Sesamum indicum) is an annual plant of the sesame family, native to Africa and India. Sesame oil extracted from its seeds is considered the "best carrier oil" in Ayurveda, traditional Indian medicine, and has been used for thousands of years as a fundamental oil for Shirodhara (meditative care involving pouring oil on the forehead) and Abhyanga (full-body massage). Due to its cold-press extraction method, which suppresses flavor, this product has a pure texture suitable for body care and massage.
Characteristics of Sesame Oil
Known for its balanced content of oleic and linoleic acids, as well as vitamin E and natural antioxidants (sesamin and sesamolin), this oil has a slightly viscous texture. It excels in moisturizing the skin and is suitable for deep massages. This carrier oil is favored by those who seek a "heavier, richer" feel than almond or jojoba, and has been cherished for body care in colder seasons.
How to Use as a Carrier Oil
Dilute essential oils at a ratio of approximately 1-2 drops (about 1% or less) per 10mL of carrier oil. In Ayurvedic tradition, blends with woody scents (Palo Santo, Sandalwood) and resinous scents (Copaiba) have been popular since ancient times. This carrier oil pairs particularly well with deep woody and spicy aromas.
How to Use Alone
Sesame oil alone provides rich moisturizing properties. In the Ayurvedic practice of "Abhyanga" (self-oil massage), there is a tradition of applying warm sesame oil to the entire body before showering or bathing. This method has been popular as a base for body care and massage in colder seasons.
Consider Other Carrier Oils and Essential Oils
If you're looking for a lighter texture, consider almond or jojoba. For nutritional value, opt for hemp seed, and for specific high-viscosity applications, consider castor. Blending, such as sesame and almond (for a balance of heaviness and lightness), is also recommended.
