A 10ml single essential oil extracted by cold pressing from the peel of Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) from Calabria, Italy. It has a sophisticated, multidimensional aroma that combines citrusy freshness with floral sweetness. Known for flavoring Earl Grey tea, it is a key supporting player in European perfumery.
Bergamot: A Citrus Fruit
Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) is a pear-shaped citrus fruit resembling a lemon, cultivated almost exclusively along the coast of Calabria, southern Italy. Unsuitable for eating raw, almost all of it has been used as an essential oil raw material and flavoring agent. It has long been a cherished ingredient in European scent culture, known for the unique flavor of Earl Grey tea, its traditional use in eau de cologne, and as a top note in men's fragrances.
Essential Oil Profile
- Botanical Name: Citrus bergamia
- Extraction Method: Cold pressed (peel)
- Extraction Part: Peel
- Main Components: Limonene, Linalyl acetate, Linalool
- Aroma Note: Top
- Aroma Characteristics: Citrus freshness, floral sweetness, subtle woody complexity
Why It's Called "Elegant Citrus"
If lemon and orange are "bright, effervescent citrus," bergamot is "mature citrus with floral notes." Due to the presence of linalyl acetate (a component also found in lavender), it has a floral depth within its citrus character, and in the world of perfumes and colognes, it is considered an indispensable ingredient for "bridging citrus and floral notes."
How to Use
- In an aroma diffuser or for aromatic bathing in your living room, bedroom, or workspace. Use 1-3 drops as a guideline.
- Steam inhalation: Pour hot water into a mug, add 1 drop, and enjoy the rising aroma.
- Aroma bath: Mix with a carrier oil or natural emulsifier before adding to bath water.
- Massage oil: Dilute to 0.5-1% with a carrier oil before use.
Caution Regarding Phototoxicity
Bergamot essential oil has phototoxicity (reaction to UV light due to furanocoumarins). Avoid sun exposure or direct UV light immediately after applying it to your skin. Use it for nighttime care or during off-time during the day.
Also Consider Other Citrus and Related Oils
We also recommend blending with other citrus oils like lemon, floral rose geranium, and gentle lavender-based lavender maillette. Also consider Fiore D'Oriente's roll-on Peace & Love (a perfect blend of citrus, floral, and woody notes).
